After working for Citicorp for a brief period, I changed my career path to real estate and construction management. I had a long-time interest in real estate and repurposing buildings. I really enjoy seeing the positive impacts a new project or a repurposed building brings to a community. Developing a vision for a property and managing the varied team members to a successful conclusion is very fulfilling. My family has been involved in real estate development for four generations. It is exciting to continue the tradition.

I grew up in five states including California, Oregon, Alaska, Maine and Colorado and 4 countries, Norway, Scotland, England and Austria. I feel fortunate to have been able to see and experience so much of the world. This experience has had a huge impact on how I see people and how I address problems and opportunities.
What has been your most memorable project?
My most memorable project is the master planning for the downtown area of Salinas, CA. I led the development and design team to redevelop twenty acres of the city’s old town district. It was an amazing experience to work with a diverse and impressive team to create a vibrant new area of the city and to work collaboratively with elected officials, public interest groups, property owners, private citizens and state, county, city and federal officials.
It was an empowering to work with the community and to know that my team’s decisions impacted so many people and the direction of the community for years to come.
The project included approximately 1,000 new apartments, a 150-room boutique hotel, four new parking garages, new office buildings, 200,000 sf of retail, new parks, plazas and fountains, TOD development including, Amtrak, high speed rail, Greyhound and City buses, new City Hall, library and courthouse facilities and changing the street grid.
The end-result was a project that was enthusiastically supported by the community and a project that created millions of dollars in new revenue for the city. The completed project could serve as a catalyst for future economic development.
